The Russian government has offered admission to Nigerian students who have been displaced by the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin’s foreign minister, Russia is prepared to admit Nigerian students who have been displaced by the conflict in Ukraine to finish their education.
This offer was made by Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian Federation’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, at a meeting with Professor Abdullahi Shehu, the Nigerian Ambassador to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Belarus, on Friday in Moscow.
Russia considers Nigeria to be a strategic partner in Africa, according to Mr Bogdanov, who also serves as the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries. Mr Bogdanov also serves as the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries.
In his remarks, he stated that both nations will continue to work to deepen their current bilateral relations.
In addition, Mr. Bogdanov informed the Nigerian ambassador that preparations had been made by the Russian government to aid in the evacuation of Nigerian students who had become stranded in Kherson, Ukraine.
Assuring the Ambassador that the Russian Government will offer all necessary help to protect the safety and well-being of Nigerian people in the Russian Federation, he stated that
Their conversation covered a wide range of topics, including the current situation in Ukraine and the future development of the traditionally friendly Russia-Nigeria relationship. They also discussed efforts to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, culture, humanitarian sphere and other fields during their conversation.
He remembered the friendly and mutually beneficial connections that existed between Nigeria and the Russian Federation in the previous years.
He cited the latter’s military and political help to Nigeria during the civil war, as well as its later assistance to Nigeria in the construction of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, as examples.
He went on to say that this includes help for the development of nuclear technology for peaceful reasons.
Mr Shehu responded by expressing gratitude to the government of the Russian Federation for its concern and help with regard to the condition of Nigerian citizens.
The President remembered the warm ties between Nigeria and the Russian Federation at the bilateral, continental and global levels, including Nigeria’s support for the Russia-Africa Summit as well as the two countries’ shared concerns about global challenges.
In the battle against terrorism, climate change and international peace and security are examples of such issues.
He further urged that the Russian authorities create the required favorable environment for the welfare and well-being of Nigerians in the Russian Federation, and that our bilateral relations be strengthened in all sectors, as desired by the Nigerian government.
