Lagos creates two new universities, consolidates its two colleges of education.
Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, said on Tuesday that the state government will merge the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education in Ijanikin with the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education in Epe to form a university of education.
Additionally, the governor stated that the Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu would be transformed into a university of science.He stated this during his speech as the Special Guest of Honor at the public presentation of a book titled “Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe @60: Audacity of Resilience.”
It was inaugurated in honor of Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, UNILAG.
The governor stated that the two new universities will begin operations after the National Universities Commission, NUC, approved them.
He assured that the state government would not fail to adequately fund its existing tertiary and other institutions as a result of the additional responsibility.
