Erasmus Mundus Scholarships for Nigerians: Find the Real Programme Deadline

Quick answer: There is no single Erasmus Mundus scholarship application or deadline for Nigerian master’s applicants. Choose a specific Erasmus Mundus Joint Master from the European Commission’s student guidance and catalogue, then apply to the institution running that programme. Its own website sets the academic rules, scholarship route, documents and deadline. Admission without a scholarship may have a different closing date and cost.

The Commission says students worldwide can apply and that most applications for the following academic year fall between October and January. That is a planning window, not a universal deadline. The three official 2027-intake examples below show what to check before you spend time preparing a dossier.

Compare three programme-specific routes

Programme and official pageScholarship or financial-aid deadlineWhat changes for a self-funded applicant
Mundus MAPP, 2027–291 December 2026, 23:59 CET, for financial-aid consideration. Its calendar lists 15 April 2027 for non-EU/EEA residents who do not seek financial aid. The earlier route also accepts early self-funded applications.
EMMIR, Edition 14, 2027–2920 December 2026, 23:59 CET, for scholarship and non-fee-paying self-funded applications. Its fee-paying self-funded route may remain open until 15 July 2027, subject to places. The programme distinguishes three funding categories.
Euroculture, 2027–2915 January 2027 for Erasmus Mundus scholarship consideration; its 2027–29 application window is scheduled to open 15 October 2026.The page asks non-EU/EEA applicants to apply well before the course starts for visa preparation; do not mistake that later planning date for the scholarship deadline.

Checked 9 October 2026. The pages can change. Convert any stated time zone for your own calendar and confirm whether the deadline means submission in the portal, receipt of references, or arrival of official records. For example, Mundus MAPP separately lists 31 July 2027 for official academic records; that is not its financial-aid application deadline. Euroculture’s page does not state a time of day for 15 January, so do not invent one.

Start with academic fit, then funding

The Commission says applicants normally need a bachelor’s degree or to be in the final year and graduate before the master’s begins. A recognised bachelor-equivalent qualification may also be considered under the relevant national rules. That is a general entry framework, not a promise that every programme accepts every Nigerian degree or HND. Read the chosen consortium’s subject, grade, language and document requirements before planning a scholarship application.

Open the programme curriculum and ask whether the field, modules, required preparation, mobility countries and degree outcome match your aim. A scholarship attached to a course outside your preparation is not a good shortlist entry simply because it is funded. Use our programme comparison worksheet to record the exact course and intake.

Separate admission from scholarship selection

An Erasmus Mundus Joint Master can admit a student without awarding a scholarship. The Commission says scholarships cover participation costs and contribute to travel, visa and a living allowance for selected students. Check the programme’s award terms and your own pre-arrival expenses before calling an offer “fully funded”. The EMMIR page, for example, explicitly distinguishes scholarship, non-fee-paying self-funded and fee-paying self-funded applicants. Its application form asks candidates to identify the funding option they seek.

Do not follow the European Commission’s institutional grant deadline as a student deadline. Organisations apply for funding to run programmes; prospective students apply to a chosen consortium. Use the student page to reach the catalogue, then the programme website to submit.

A worked deadline decision

Fictional example: Ada, a Nigerian graduate, finds the 2027–29 Mundus MAPP programme. She wants financial aid. Its official calendar has a 1 December 2026 financial-aid deadline and a 15 April 2027 non-EU/EEA self-funded deadline. Ada records 1 December as her application target and checks the formal requirements and required uploads. She does not wait until April and assume scholarship consideration remains available. If she misses the funding deadline, she treats the later route as a separate self-funded decision with a different budget, not a hidden extension.

Some programmes require references or final records at a different stage. Follow the consortium’s instructions rather than copying another course’s list. If your final academic documents are pending, use our final-transcript guide to formulate a precise question to the programme. Keep your funding gap in the scholarship tracker and confirm the latest details on the official site before submission.
